In Pottermore, users come across wizard chess in three different areas.  The first is the ability to collect it during the holiday feast in Chapter 12, the second is in the Chapter 13, and the third is as Harry is making his way through the under chambers in chapter 16.

The last is a major missed opportunity.  Several years ago (I’m not sure if it’s still around) but there used to be an computer game called “Battle Chess.”  This was Wizard Chess for human.  The different pieces fought as one captured the other.  Wouldn’t it be great if Pottermore established a partnership with that company or a similar company to enable online wizard battle chess.  Members could challenge each other and house points could be earned.

I really hope this is something that the people behind Pottermore are looking at for future version.  What do you think?

Galleons become important when you need to buy more supplies, especially after you’ve messed up that draught of the living dead for the fifth time!

Galleons are small so you have to be especially careful when looking for them.

You don’t get to earn points for your house until you get sorted.  If you wait until you are sorted and then go back to collect the object you will gain house points for those.

Note – once you purchase all your supplies from Diagon Alley you won’t be able to view your shopping list again.  It will simply be  a static thumbnail graphic in your trunk.

Chocolate Frogs can be collected throughout book one beginning in Chapter 6 – Hogwarts Express moment.

The cards have their names of the wizards but I must admit I’m a little disappointed that they are not taking advantage of some of the text and artwork that JK Rowling has on her regular site.  I think it would definitely add to the experience if the picture and write up for each wizard was included.  I’m hoping that happens in a future version of the site.

Also – if we have the ability to “gift things” it would be nice if multiple cards could be found so that we could share or trade our duplicates with friends who may not have found the cards yet.

How about extra house points if you collect all the cards?

Here’s a list of the Chocolate Frog Cards:

  • Albus Dumbledore
  • Circe
  • Cliodna
  • Godric Gryffindor
  • Helga Hufflepuff
  • Hengist of Woodcroft
  • Merlin
  • Morgana
  • Paracelsus
  • Rowena Ravenclaw
  • Salazar Slytherin

As Harry makes his way through challenges to stop You-Know-Who from getting the Philosopher’s/Sorcerer’s Stone he comes across a potions challenge.  The game works as is. I’m not sure if there’s anything to be gained by expanding it so enjoy.

Danger lies before you, while safety lies behind,
Two of us will help you, whichever you would find,
One among us seven will let you move ahead,
Another will transport the drinker back instead,
Two among our number hold only nettle wine,
Three of us are killers, waiting hidden in line.
Choose, unless you wish to stay here for evermore,
To help you in your choice, we give you these clues four:
First, however slyly the poison tries to hide
You will always find some on nettle wine’s left side;
Second, different are those who stand at either end,
But if you would move onwards, neither is your friend;
Third, as you see clearly, all are different size,
Neither dwarf nor giant holds death in their insides;
Fourth, the second left and the second on the right
Are twins once you taste them, though different at first sight.
